My Honda TMX 125!

January 20, 2009

Yes, it’s mine but I don’t really know how to drive it. Anyway, I named My First Real Investment Genesis for the obvious reasons. Genesis means beginning and this motorcycle is the start of me being an “investor.”

Here he is…

My First Real Investment

January 19, 2009

After months of soul searching and digging on several books, I finally know, at least in my heart, that I wanted to be a successful investor in the years to come. I want to be financially free so I can do what I want in life like travel around the world, serve my local church, care for orphans and to spend as much quality time with my family. (I just hate the thought of an 8-hour job and I can’t see myself working that way for many more years to come.)

On January 7, 2009, my journey towards becoming an “investor” has begun. Together with my uncle, we paid the down payment for my motorcycle. It’s the first asset I bought with my own money. I was overjoyed and excited when we finally got the keys. I know that motorcycles depreciate in time so it’s not exactly an asset and I have to pay for maintenance monthly. But being an “investor,” that’s not what I had in mind. Of course, I wouldn’t want the motorcycle to be in the expense side of my income statement and under liabilities in my balance sheet (at least not for long). I don’t even have my driver’s license yet so definitely I’m a noob in driving.

The motorcycle is not for personal use at all but it’s a mean to create passive income. Since, the major mode of transportation in our city (La Carlota, a small developing city in the province of Negros Occidental, Philippines) is a three-wheel motorcycle (aka tricycles), I decided to get myself one. I will let someone drive it for me and in return he has to give me money (we usually call it boundary) at the end of the day. I have done a little math and found out that total income for this investment minus the expenses for maintenance and monthly down payment equals to a little extra cash monthly.

And there goes my passive income. It’s not much but it’s actually a step (a baby step in fact) forward towards my goal. I don’t have to do anything but accept the money everyday. I also help someone get a job. What a good way to start the journey, isn’t it? :D

So, do you want to see how he looks like? Check out the photos of my Honda TMX 125.
